What happened in New York
Utility Dive reported on July 9, 2026 that New York has installed 8GW of distributed solar capacity statewide. The report cited more than 276,000 distributed solar projects, enough output to power 1.3 million homes and businesses, with another 2.7GW of capacity in development. Source: Utility Dive.
Why distributed solar is different
Distributed solar is not one large project repeated once. It is many rooftops, community solar sites, parking canopies and small C&I systems moving through local review, utility interconnection and installation scheduling. Row spacing, terrain, access roads, snow management, fencing and maintenance clearance should be reviewed before the mounting order is placed.
