Why terrain-following trackers matter
At hundreds of megawatts, tracker selection is no longer a simple mechanical choice. Terrain-following designs are used because civil works, pile height, table geometry and row-to-row tolerance all affect the project schedule and cost. If the tracker cannot adapt to site slope within the allowed range, the project may need more grading, longer posts or a different row configuration. That is why topographic survey data should reach the mounting supplier early rather than after the commercial shortlist is closed.
Utility PV buyers should review the full system
A single-axis tracker package includes structure, posts, bearings, torque tube, drive units, control logic and wind stow strategy. The tracker must also match the foundation concept, electrical string layout, maintenance access and module type. Bifacial modules, large-format panels and higher wind exposure can all change the row design. Buyers should compare tracker offers on engineering assumptions as well as price per watt.
