Solar Delivers 25% of EU Electricity in June — a Record 52 TWh

A milestone month for European solar

For the first time ever, solar supplied a quarter of the European Union's electricity in a calendar month. Data from energy think tank Ember shows solar generated a record 52 TWh in June 2026 — 25% of EU generation, beating the previous high of 47 TWh (23%) set only a month earlier in May. The largest source on the grid

June also made solar the EU's single largest power source, ahead of nuclear at 21%, gas at 15%, wind at 14% and hydro at 12%, with coal down at 8%. It is only the third month in which solar has topped the EU mix — after June 2025 and May 2026 — and the frequency is increasing. Record output coincided with heatwave-driven cooling demand, meaning solar peaked exactly when the grid needed it most.

Where the growth came from

The member-state numbers show how broad the build-out has become. Spain generated over a third of its June power from solar (34%) for the first time; Germany reached 36% in June after passing the one-third mark in May; and Poland — a coal-heavy grid a decade ago — drew nearly a quarter of its June electricity from solar (24%). Behind each percentage point are thousands of individual installations: commercial and industrial rooftops, carports over parking areas, and utility-scale fields.

What it means for the supply chain

A record generation share is a lagging indicator of installation — and a leading indicator of more. European buyers continue to order rooftop mounting systems for the C&I segment that drove much of this growth, carport structures that turn parking into generation, and ground-mount systems for the utility pipeline. The takeaway

Solar's 25% month will not be a one-off: capacity added this year makes next June's record likely before a single panel is installed.
