PV Tech reported on July 9, 2026 that India added approximately 26GW of solar capacity during the first half of 2026, based on JMK Research data. The report said solar additions were up 43% year on year, with utility-scale projects contributing around 19GW and rooftop solar adding about 6.4GW during the same period. Source: PV Tech.

Why the mix matters for mounting suppliers

The split between utility-scale and rooftop growth is important. A 19GW utility-scale half-year means developers and EPCs need repeatable ground-mount designs, consistent foundation assumptions and documentation that can move across multiple sites. At the same time, a sharp rise in rooftop capacity means installers also need reliable roof-interface choices for metal roofs, flat roofs and residential structures.

Utility projects need faster early screening

For utility fields, the mounting discussion should start before the final bill of materials. Soil condition, terrain, corrosion exposure, design wind speed, snow load, module dimensions, tilt, row spacing and O&M access can all change the structure. If these inputs are collected early, suppliers can help compare driven pile, ground screw, tracker and fixed-tilt options before procurement pressure becomes too high.

Rooftop growth raises interface risk

Rooftop PV has a different risk profile. Metal roof profile, sheet thickness, purlin spacing, waterproofing limits, ballast capacity and fire access zones can affect the correct mounting selection. For a fast-growing rooftop market, the best RFQ package is not only a module datasheet; it should include roof photos, drawings, load allowance and local code assumptions.
