The current readiness step
Minnesota's Department of Commerce lists a second 2026 Solar for Schools readiness-assessment window from 10 August to 11 September. Eligible schools with a project ID use the assessment to show readiness before moving to the full grant application, which is due 11 January 2027.
What readiness means for a PV package
The programme describes the assessment as an early project-exploration step before developers are asked to purchase and install a solar PV system. For rooftop candidates, that makes roof age and condition, usable area, structural capacity, utility service, electrical routing and safe maintenance access practical inputs—not late-stage substitutions.
Buyer impact
Schools and their advisors can reduce later bid revisions by recording the roof survey, drawings, load basis, module envelope, setbacks, fire pathways, planned roof work and utility constraints. The resulting information helps developers distinguish feasible capacity from an initial estimate.
