pv magazine has reported a mounting system intended for photovoltaic installations on gabions. The application joins PV hardware with gabion structural elements rather than a conventional roof or ground foundation.
Why the application needs review
Gabion-based installations may suit constrained or landscape-led sites, but the load path cannot be assumed from a standard racking configuration. Connection details, stone containment, corrosion exposure, wind loads, module geometry and maintenance access all require project-specific evaluation.
How buyers should scope it
Buyers should provide drawings, local load data, gabion dimensions and the proposed fixing interface before requesting a bill of materials. Solar ground mounting systems remain the appropriate reference point for comparing structure, foundation and installation assumptions.
