What changed on 1 October
Australia's Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water says new solar PV systems above 100 kW and no more than 1 MW installed from 1 October 2026 may be eligible for Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme support. The change extends the scheme to mid-scale projects commonly found on warehouses, logistics sites, farms, schools, hospitals and community facilities; it does not make systems above 1 MW eligible for SRES support.
What buyers need to prove
Eligibility is not just a system-size test. The department lists product and installer accreditation, planning compliance, electrical-safety compliance and relevant network connection agreements among the conditions. For expansions, the total capacity at the site cannot exceed 1 MW. The party entitled to create certificates must also provide the Clean Energy Regulator with written evidence of planning and approval compliance, including engineering reports and network agreements where required.
Buyer impact for rooftop scope
Owners and EPCs should keep commercial eligibility and buildability on one release plan. Before issuing mounting orders, confirm the module layout, roof survey, load paths, wind region, corrosion environment, penetrations or ballast approach, electrical routes and connection milestones. That record helps prevent a late structural redesign from disrupting installation timing or the evidence needed for the certificate pathway.
Next step
For a 100 kW–1 MW project, assemble the roof information, module format, preliminary layout and applicable load basis before the mounting package is selected. Apex commercial rooftop mounting solutions can then be reviewed against the confirmed site conditions rather than a capacity target alone.
